The Nature of We Defend You
We Defend You ("WDY") is a virtual chambers — not a law firm, legal partnership, or professional corporation. WDY operates as a referral and directory platform through which independently licensed legal professionals in Ontario make their services available to the public.
WDY was formerly operated as an active legal practice. That practice has since concluded. The individuals listed on this Website are independent legal practitioners who are each separately licensed, regulated, and accountable under Ontario law. They do not operate as employees, partners, associates, or agents of We Defend You or of one another.
We Defend You does not provide legal services and does not carry on the practice of law or the provision of legal services in any capacity. Retaining any practitioner found through this Website constitutes an independent agreement solely between you and that practitioner.
Website Content Is Not Legal Advice
All content published on this Website — including articles, guides, FAQs, summaries, case overviews, commentary, and any other written or multimedia material — is provided for general informational and educational purposes only.
Nothing on this Website constitutes legal advice, legal opinion, or a legal assessment of any specific matter, situation, or set of facts. The law is constantly evolving and varies depending on jurisdiction, the specific facts at issue, and individual circumstances. General information cannot substitute for the advice of a qualified, licensed legal professional retained to act on your behalf.
You should not act — or refrain from acting — based on anything you read on this Website. If you have a legal problem, consult a licensed lawyer or paralegal who can properly assess your situation.
No Professional Relationship Is Created
Your use of this Website does not create, imply, or establish any professional, solicitor-client, paralegal-client, fiduciary, or confidential relationship between you and We Defend You, or between you and any practitioner listed on this Website.
No professional relationship is formed unless and until:
- You have been accepted as a client by a specific licensed practitioner;
- That practitioner has agreed to represent you in a specific matter; and
- A formal retainer agreement has been signed between you and that practitioner.
Any communications submitted through this Website prior to a formal retainer are not protected by solicitor-client privilege. Do not include sensitive or confidential legal information in pre-retainer communications.
Independent Practitioners
Each legal professional listed or profiled on this Website is an independent, self-employed practitioner. They are not employees, staff, partners, or agents of We Defend You. They are not jointly or severally liable with We Defend You or with one another for any acts, omissions, advice, or services provided.
Each listed practitioner:
- Holds their own licence issued by the Law Society of Ontario or other applicable governing body;
- Is individually responsible for their own professional conduct, quality of services, and compliance with applicable rules and codes of conduct;
- Maintains their own professional liability (errors and omissions) insurance as required by their governing body; and
- Sets their own fees, accepts their own clients, and enters into their own retainer agreements independently.
We Defend You makes no representations, warranties, or guarantees regarding the competence, qualifications, availability, or suitability of any practitioner listed on this Website. You are encouraged to verify licensing status directly at lso.ca.
