Yes. You read it correctly. Acclaimed Toronto Sun Courts reporter Sam Pazzano is still walking into courtrooms, only this time, as a paralegal. Sam was the recipient of a We Defend You Full Scholarship and enrolled in the Paralegal program at Cestar College. Sam graduated in October, 2021 and passed his Law Society of Ontario P1 Exam.

"Walking through the courthouse with Sam, is like walking through Vegas with Sinatra." - Christie Blatchford.

In 2020, Sam retired from Post Media and has since worked as a freelance journalist for the CBC, Global News, and the Toronto Sun.

He covered the Justice Beat exclusively for 26 years. He has the longest tenure of any reporter on the beat. Dubbed the Michael Jordan of court reporting at a 2012 Ryerson University panel of journalists and lawyers, he has covered some of the most-watched court cases of our time, including the recent Jian Ghomeshi trial, the Marco Muzzo sentencing, and the Bernardo appeal. He also broke the bride of Bernardo story in 2014, when a London, Ont., real estate agent had her sights set on marrying Paul Bernardo.

He most recently produced the Global Crime Beat episode entitled Fatal Facade: The Murder of Dr. Elana Fric. Farogh Sadat's story on CBC and Jasmine Fric's story on the Global News website.

Sam broke the stories on COVID-19 triggered mass-release of inmates from provincial jails, and Gang members cashing in CERB cheques to purchase guns, a gang war declared on social media.

Sam graduated from Ryerson's Journalism School in 1979 and started his career at the Grand Prairie Daily Herald Tribune in Alberta and back home in Ontario, writing for the Welland Tribune.

In his 37-year career at the Sun, Sam has written stories and worked as a beat reporter at City Hall, Queen's Park, the police desk, and he was also a general assignment reporter. He covered the World Series in 1992 and 1993, Hurricane Andrew, the Yonge Street riots, and the first gay marriage in Canada.

He has helped produce several American and Australian true-crime TV shows such as Killer Couples, Snapped, and Behind Mansion Walls. He was a featured courts expert on these shows about cases such as the axe-murdering lesbian love triangle, Doctor Joseph Roncaioli, and the Jennifer Pan murder trial.

Sam now joins the team at We Defend You as a Licensed Paralegal focusing on Provincial Offences, Summary criminal and Regulatory discipline cases.
